Dreaming of buying a Peloton, but shocked by the price tag? If you aren't ready to spend over $2,000 for a new Peloton*, follow these steps for an alternative "Peloton Experience" at a much lower price:
Step 1: Get a used commercial grade bike
There are a lot of options for indoor cycling at home. Like the Peloton, the issue with purchasing a new indoor cycle under $1200 is that they are all residential grade. Quality of construction, sturdiness, and lifespan can all come into play.
RTC Fitness Equipment recommends getting a pre-owned commercial grade indoor cycling bike like the Keiser M3. The Keiser M3 is a commercial grade spin cycle and is one of the most popular bikes on the market today. Commercial grade fitness equipment is built to last and is traditionally more comfortable than residential grade equipment. Pro tip: Unlike Pelotons, Keiser M3s are not required to be plugged in so you can place your Keiser bike anywhere you would like in your home.
Step 2: Get a tablet or phone mount
Peloton bikes and treadmills each come with a built in touchscreen. The Peloton content is amazing and allows the user access to hours of on-demand as well as live streaming content. Here is the catch...the touchscreen currently only streams Peloton content meaning you can't binge watch your favorite Netflix show on the Peloton screens. Using a mount for your spin bike will allow you the flexibility to view Peloton content (classes, programs, live streams, etc)..more about that in Step 3...as well as your favorite streaming programming.
Step 3: Download the Peloton Digital App
From the Peloton app, you can choose from over 10,000 pre-recorded classes or access up to 14 live daily spin classes. By downloading Peloton's Digital app and using your own iOS or Android device, you can still have access to all of the amazing content that Peloton Bike owners have except you will spend $12 per month instead of $39 per month. The Peloton app is available for both iOS and Android devices.
